Frequently asked questions

Is Zaap Launcher a Raycast alternative for Linux?

Yes. Zaap brings a Raycast-style command palette to Linux. Search apps, run commands, and manage clipboard history from one global shortcut on Wayland and X11.

How is Zaap Launcher different from Raycast, Ulauncher, or Albert?

Raycast is macOS-only. Zaap is built for Linux with clipboard history, timers, translation, and custom commands built in — no plugin hunting. Compared to Ulauncher or Albert, Zaap ships more productivity tools out of the box.

Does Zaap Launcher work on Wayland?

Yes. Zaap Launcher runs on both Wayland and X11. Global shortcuts work on GNOME Shell out of the box.

Which distros does Zaap Launcher support?

Zaap Launcher runs on any Linux distro with GNOME. Ubuntu, Fedora, Pop!_OS, and Arch are tested regularly.

Is Zaap Launcher free?

Yes. Zaap Launcher is free to download and use. Follow releases on GitHub for updates.

Is my clipboard data sent anywhere?

No. Clipboard history stays on your machine. Nothing is uploaded or shared — ever.

Will Zaap slow down my system?

No. Zaap stays quiet in the background and only wakes up when you call it. No background syncing, no performance hit.

How do I open the launcher?

Hit Alt+Space from anywhere on your desktop. You can change the shortcut anytime in Settings.

Does Zaap work offline?

Yes. App search, clipboard history, custom commands, timers, and translation work offline where the feature does not require network access.

Can I build my own commands or extensions?

Yes. Add custom commands in Settings to launch apps, open URLs, or run shell scripts. A full extension API is coming soon.

Is Windows or macOS support planned?

Not right now. Zaap is focused on Linux desktops. Follow on GitHub to stay updated.
